Primary opportunities

This segment proposes significant ecological enhancements by re-routing the existing straightened river channel to have meandering bends, connecting side channels, and improved wetlands. These river restoration recommendations would improve stormwater pollution through green infrastructure, dissipate stream energy to create managed and safe public amenities, and improve riparian conditions for healthier habitats.

Within these ecological enhancements, there are opportunities to balance wetland protection and wetland access with boardwalks and trail improvements. With the development of a two-trail system on either side of the river, the existing JRP Trail will be enhanced and more opportunities for neighborhood connection to connect into these new and existing trail systems begin to create a strong recreational loop around an enhanced and resilient river ecosystem.
