Segment 6 covers one of the widest sections of the corridor, defined by the Redwood Recreation Center, nearby cultural facilities, and the expansive wetlands of the Redwood Conservation Area.
With a considerable land area, the open area just south of the canal has the potential to be enhanced with a series of connecting ponds and side channels to manage water from the canal to river in a improved hydrological system. With more areas for wetland creation, the riparian habitats will be improved and established.
Within this larger ecological core programming, a regional destination park could interact with these proposed habitat enhancements and nearby development opportunities. Neighborhood connections with the improved trail network and a proposed road on the western edge of the site would enhance the access to a destination park, the ongoing Rec Center Redevelopment efforts, and also consider the adjacent Light Rail System to attract visitors. Additionally on the eastern side of the river with the development of the Mill Creek Confluence Trailhead, neighborhoods to the east will become connected to the site with trails and bridges that bring visitors to the central proposed amenities and ecology.
