Segment 2 centers on the Little Cottonwood Confluence, where Confluence Park, the Little Confluence Trailhead, and Arrowhead Park meet.
While this segment of the Jordan River has not been as straightened and modified as the river channel in Segment 1, there is still a continued focus of proposing significant ecological enhancements by re-routing the side channels to follow existing topography and connecting side channels with ponds and improved wetlands. These river restoration recommendations would improve stormwater pollution through green infrastructure, dissipate stream energy to create managed and safe public amenities, and improve riparian conditions for healthier habitats.
From a recreational perspective, the parks and trailhead areas are currently treated as three distinct and separate parks. The vision for this segment is to unify these recreational spaces so they can each share programmed spaces, existing assets can be built upon, so ultimately a set of connected amenities develops a cohesive recreational relationship. Continuing Segment 1’s goals, a strong recreational loop with boardwalks and trail enhancements would strategically be developed within the enhanced river ecosystem.
